Our Motivation
After their son Ian, a standout University of Michigan swimmer, died by suicide, Steve and Jill Miskelley created
Be Better; to remove barriers to proper care and help save lives.
Ian was a student, a brother, a nephew, and a friend who bravely fought mental illness and showed us that even when families do everything right, gaps in the mental health system can fail them.
Mental illness can affect anyone. There are no exceptions, no warnings, and it's cruel and unfair. Mental illness is not a character flaw or a weakness.
We are all stronger together and the support of a team is crucial in mental wellness. For us, TEAM also means the steps we take with you on your journey. Being on Ian's TEAM means just that. You are part of a team for life.
